Scar Therapy
A brand-new treatment to help scar tissue.
Shepherds’ Health is excited to announce that we can now provide RESTORE scar therapy as part of our massage therapy services.
RESTORE scar therapy is suitable for anyone following injury, looking for proven results often achieved over a few sessions, which are usually permanent. It’s a specialist scar massage and fascial technique applied at the right pace and pressure to suit you. We would recommend that you begin your scar therapy treatment in the first 6-12 months after injury or surgery, however this treatment can greatly benefit old scars too.
Scar tissue is far less functional than normal tissue and in using fascial release, this non-invasive physical therapy developed to treat scar tissue, fibrosis and adhesions, encourages healthy recovery.
It stimulates changes to the scar tissue on the skin surface and to adhesions or fibrosis in the underlying tissue. Common symptoms including pain, numbness or sensitivity can be improved and whilst this is not a cosmetic procedure, it can offer visible improvements.
Seeing and feeling instant results is highly possible or you may notice a difference in how your scar is in the following days after treatment; every scar is different and some may need more treating than others.
Experiencing a little discomfort after treatment is perfectly normal and can be linked to stimulation of nerve repair. Anything more painful and you should seek medical advice.
We can also provide you with a self-care routine which you can do at home which includes identifying signs of infection, moisturising, gentle/regular massage, sun protection and managing keloid and hypertrophic scars.
