Why do I need a knee brace?
Knee braces can help you remain active despite, injuries you may have to ligaments or the joint surfaces.
They can also help offload joint surfaces to allow you to continue your sporting hobbies, such as skiing, walking and tennis, despite Osteoarthritis. You can also use joint braces for injury prevention.
If you have had your ACL reconstructed surgically, but want to ski safely without the risk of re-rupture, you can use a knee brace to help you.
What sort of knee brace do I need?
There are knee braces for all types of injuries, as well as multi-purpose braces.
First you need to establish whether you wish to stabilise the knee, or to offload the knee joint. Ligament injuries and post surgical repairs, generally want stabilisation braces such as the Donjoy Armor Fourcepoint hinged brace or the custom built Donjoy Defiance brace.
If you are trying to offload the knee joint due to a meniscus or cartilage injury or Osteoarthritis, you would look at a brace like the Donjoy OA Nano brace or the Donjoy Clima-Flex OA brace. Still not, sure…? Just get in touch with us and we can help you
What size am I?
Sizing varies across manufacturers. But the Donjoy size chart is accurate and helpful. You simply measure the circumference of your thigh at a point 15cm above the mid patella (middle point of your knee cap).
This is used across all their knee braces, other than the custom-built Defiance brace. For this you need to come into us and we can use the measuring device on your knee to get the accurate measurements required. At this point you also get to choose the colour and finish of your defiance brace.
